Abstract
This dissertation advances the theory of multicast data distribution using layered division multiplexing within the framework of cooperative communications system design. Multicast services are an indispensable part of present and future wireless networks due to their ability to transmit the same data to a group of users within the same radio resources. To improve the efficiency of multicast data distribution, this dissertation investigates layered transmissions in cooperative networks with multi-antenna terminals. Layered transmissions are particularly promising for multicast services because they provide flexible use of the broadcast spectrum through the transmission of several data streams over the same radio resources.
Description
The field of multicast transmissions considered in this dissertation is a special case of broadcast transmissions. It is emerging as a promising technology, offering significant improvement in spectral efficiency with the potential to extend the capabilities of next-generation communication systems.
