Abstract
Our work consists of an edition of a few journals, memoirs and letters written by Joseph Villebon during his tenure as governor of Acadia, between 1690 and 1700. In these texts he describes the places and forts that are found in Acadia of his time, presents the day-to-day management of the colony, talks about the economic difficulties it faced and highlights the military and strategic challenges that had to be met. These documents constitute an important sample for the study of Acadian history and French colonial history during the decades that led to the decline of the Franco-Indian Empire of America.
This work is meant to be a contribution to preserve a part of the Canadian heritage and to make known to researchers, to the curious on the colonial history and the general public a series of testimonies that create our cultural heritage and our collective memory.
