The research is mainly about 1) Develop independent computer programs (applications) based on a new in-situ stress estimation method; 2) Apply simulated test examples to the programs to perform error assessment and statistical analysis to provide guidance in field applications.en_US
In 2016, Dr. Lin and Zou proposed a back-analysis method to evaluate the complete 3D in-situ stress state underground. This method requires obtaining the diametrical displacement data from at least three different-oriented borehole cross-sections and subsequently calculates the in-situ stress through five mathematical models. The objectives of this research include 1) developing independent desktop applications based on the back-analysis method to facilitate calculation, 2) searching for the feasible space angle between the orientations of investigated cross-sections In the research, two stand-alone MFC applications based on the back-analysis method for 2D and 3D stress estimation were developed, respectively. The applications allow users to input data and view results in their user interfaces. Simulated test examples are applied to the applications to perform error assessment and statistical analysis. The results showed that the space angle between the orientation of each two cross-sections is suggested to be at least 50°.en_US
