About the George Elliott Clarke Collection

George Elliott Clarke is a widely acclaimed Canadian writer and a faculty member in the Department of English at the University of Toronto. Born and raised in Nova Scotia, he is a graduate of the University of Waterloo, Dalhousie University and Queen's University. In 2001, he received the Governor General's Award for Poetry for his book Execution Poems.

Saltwater Spirituals was his first book of poems, published in 1983, and appears here with the author's permission.
