| dc.description.abstract | University Avenue at Dalhousie University is a space that was designed for motor vehicles, but is used primarily by pedestrians. As a part of the Greening the Campus movement, the group has evaluated the feasibility of turning University Avenue into a car-free space. The group used surveys, observational studies, and interviews to collect data regarding the issues. The group found that there are more pedestrians that use University Avenue than motor vehicles. The group also learned about issues that needed to be taken into consideration when determining what changes could be made to the boulevard. The group took this information and designed two proposals for making portions of University Avenue into car-free spaces, for use as additional green space on campus. Should the group’s proposals be considered, the additional green space on Dalhousie University’s Studley Campus will enhance the urban, natural, and social capital at Dalhousie University, as well as providing a safer environment for students and residents to enjoy. | en_US |
