Dr. Wight Moffatt is a graduate of Memorial University of Newfoundland (BScN, 1979), Boston College (MS(N),1988),and the University of Toronto (PhD, 2008). She has considerable experience in perinatal nursing practice, including as a Perinatal Clinical Nurse Specialist, and she teaches in both the undergraduate and graduate nursing programs at Dalhousie University. She is also cross-appointed in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Faculty of Medicine. She has a special interest in the development, implementation and evaluation of academic policy. She has provided leadership, particularly in Atlantic Canada, in knowledge translation about fetal health surveillance, through development of standardized approaches to teaching clinicians, and teaching, consultation, publication and research in this area. Dr. Wight Moffatt’s research is in the area of maternity/perinatal nursing care, particularly in investigation of effectiveness of specific clinical interventions in strengthening physical and psychological health outcomes of childbearing women and their babies. He has experience in quantitative & mixed research methods, particularly with randomized controlled trials. Past and new research interests include: exploration of effects of mind-body/psychological interventions on maternal blood pressure and other outcomes in pregnancy; stress, coping, quality of life, sleep, and rest, in healthy and in high-risk pregnancy; and professionals’ and women’s attitudes and experiences of fetal health assessment during labour and birthing.
