Medical Register of Nova Scotia
The Medical Register of Nova Scotia is presented here in PDF format from 1857-1990 inclusive. The Register for the years 1857-1896 appeared in Belcher's Farmer's Alamanac. Beginning with 1897/1898 it was published by the Provincial Medical Board of the Province of Nova Scotia.
The annual listings of the Register may be browsed individually. Entries within each listing are in alphabetical order by surname and include the name of the physician or specialist, his or her qualification, where he/her received training and the date, and his/her place of practice for the year of the listing. For many years midwives were included in the listing.
Search the entry in the Novanet Catalogue for the Kellogg Library's current holdings of the Register in print form. Visit the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia website for the current online physician listing.
This project was made possible with a development grant from the Hannah Institute for the History of Medicine programme administered by Associated Medical Services, Inc. and has been undertaken with the permission of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia. Project coordinator was Tim Ruggles; most of the work was accomplished by Ken Williment, a student intern at the Kellogg Library and Cindy Miller, also of the Kellogg Library. Assistance has also been provided by Nova Scotia Archives and Records Management and the Systems Group, Dalhousie University Libraries.
The Registers have been placed online to assist researchers in the field of the history of medicine and those interested in geneology. Any other use of this material requires the explicit authorization of the College. The material presented here may not be republished or reproduced in any other form without permission of the College.
